SONORE “SOnar dome self-NOise REduction”

Definition of a theoretical-numerical-experimental procedure for the characterization and reduction of the noise induced on the sonar by the turbulent boundary layer. Characterization of: i) of the wall pressure field generated by the turbulent boundary layer, and ii) vibrations in the hull around the sonar dome, and iii) the mechanisms for sound radiation of noise perceived by the sonar, in order to choose the strategy for noise reduction. To this, theoretical models and computer codes will be developed, and validated through comparison with experimental data obtained in testing large-scale models, rigid and elastic, of the bulb of a military ship.
