Environmental impact assessment and reduction

In the context of eco-sustainability of maritime transport, the research module "Reduction of environmental impact" may be substantially divided in two major themes: reducing consumption, and therefore emissions, of many pollutants associated with it (as the exhaust gases from the use of fossil fuels), and the controlling the exterior noise, a topic that, in the recent years, has significantly increased the interest of the international scientific community, due to the proven harmful effects on marine life. Both these issues have a major multidisciplinary characteristics and require the development of methodological skills and techniques (numerical and experimental) which are closely related to the study of fluid-structure analysis of propulsion systems, theoretical and numerical models for optimization.
