Project description, objectives and results:
The research project is part of the Centre of Excellence AMOS, “Centre for Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems” of the NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). The objective of the Project is the investigation of the fluid-structure interaction phenomena, with main emphasis on the  hydrodynamic challenges in achieving autonomous marine operations and systems. The research activities in the period 2013-2015 are:

  • Development of suitable solution strategies for the generation, propagation and evolution of incident waves, including steepening from deep to shallow waters
  • Development of efficient and accurate numerical solvers for fluid-structure interaction problems of interest for offshore structures and marine vehicles
  • 2D and 3D physical investigations of interest for vessel behaviour in severe/extreme sea conditions and in case of abnormal events
  • Theoretical, numerical and physical study of membrane tanks in terms of hydroelasticity occurrence and consequences in LNG tanks.
