Project description, objectives and results:
Based on a 10-years collaboration between CNR-INSEAN and ECN on the development of particle methods the research activity aims at overcoming some well-known limits of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics models in order to enlarge the range of application of this method in the context of the numerical modeling of violent free-surface flows. The extension of enhanced SPH variants, such as the d-SPH developed at CNR-INSEAN, to the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) framework will be investigated with particular attention to the possibilities of coupling with mesh-based solvers.
