Towing tests

  • In calm water with measurement of: speed, strength, dynamic attitude variation on course;
  • With irregular sea spectrum, and an observation period of 20 minutes at full scale di: heave, pitch, accelerations, possible water boarding, resistance;
  • Search for best dynamic attitude;
  • Search for the best placement or orientation of the hull appendices.

Self-propulsion tests

  • With measurement of velocity, thrust, torque, propeller rpm, on course variation of dynamic attitude;
  • With irregular sea spectrum, and an observation period of 20 minutes at full scale:
    • Measurement of: heave, pitch, accelerations, possible water boarding;
    • Measurement of: thrust, torque and propeller rpm.
  • Search for the best attitude or longitudinal placement of propeller;
  • Search for the best placement or orientation of the hull appendices.

Measurement of wake and velocity components in longitudinal and transverse planes

  • Axial wake with Pitot tubes (longitudinal component only) at different speed and displacement;
  • Axial wake with spherical head Pitot tube (three velocity components) at different speed and displacement;
  • Measurement of 3D flow field on a given transverse plane of the hull with spherical head Pitot tube;
  • Axial wake with Laser-Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurement
  • Axial wake with S-PIV system (Stereo - Particle Image Velocimetry)
  • Description of 3D velocity field through longitudinal and/or transverse plans around the hull with S-PIV measurement

Roll and pitch: extinction of motions tests, with and without forward speed

Visualization of flow pattern on the hull surface using different techniques (paint, wool tufts)

Advancement in stems or with PMM (Planar Motion Mechanism) with measurement of resistance, lateral forces at bow and stern, and propulsion parameters
